FOOTBALL BEGINNINGS
When I was 5, my father lead me to handball as he used to play this sport in 2nd league for Piestany. He thought he saw some talent in me but I did not like it much. I felt better in football boots, so after a year I came to football practice – in my hometown Piestany as well. From the very beginning I played in offense and when I got through all youth stages I was picked by Ozeta Trenčín where I started to play in my 8th year of elementary school.
Under the Matúš Čák castle (in Trenčín) we made it to the first league with my fellow 8ers which was a great success for us all. That´s where my collaboration with Milan Lednický, my present agent, began.
Then I continued my studies at Sports grammar school in Trenčín. In the second year we won the title with the younger youth team. I like to recall that time very much. That was what opened the door to national U-16 team for me, U-17 and continuosly to the A-team. As the older youth team, we became champions as well, and the coach Milan Albrecht picked me to Ozeta Trenčín´s A-team. It was him who gave me the opportunity to get the first taste of first league. I got to the game against Inter Bratislava 30 minutes before the end. This match which we lost 0:3, was my first and the only so far in the highest Slovak league. Shortly after that match, in 2002, I changed Trenčín for Liberec (Czech Rep.).
FC SLOVAN LIBEREC
In the winter of 2002, I signed professional contract with FC Slovan Liberec where I joined the pre-season training under coaches Csaplár and Škorpil. Although I played for reserve team, I attended A-team practice sessions. The chance to play Czech Gambrinus liga came after I had scored 10 goals for the reserve. My premiere came in the game against Slavia Prague and lasted for 20 minutes. The first goal record came in my sixth game, it was a double record and we beat Jablonec 2:0. I started to play regularly and played about 9 games in a row.
An invitation to U-20 national team followed. With that team we got to World Cup in Dubai and ended in quarterfinals, on the team of Brasil. Unfortunately, I watched this game from the stands only because in our last group clash against Panama I broke a metacarpal bone on my right foot. There was a winter break in Czech league that time during which a new coach came to Liberec, Stanislav Griga. Due to my injury, I joined the preparations later. But I got a chance against Sparta Prague and found my place in the starting eleven. In spring I scored only 4 goals which was enough though to become the top scorer of the team.
In the summer we played UEFA-Intertoto cup, and we made it to the final! This competition was successful for me, I recorded 4 goals in 6 games and attracted several international scouts. In the semifinal against Nantes I scored the game winning goal which gave Liberec the final. I could not play the final though. The match against the French brought me the worst thing in a footballer´s career – torn ACL meant a half-year break for me. It was the worst period of my career, after an uneasy operation and slow regeneration I came back to pitch in a pre-season camp in Cyprus. Lack of games caused that I mostly sat on the bench in spring, although in last games I was lucky to score 4 goals to become Liberec top goalscorer again.
Following season the team was taken over by Vítězslav Lavička. Autumn was good, we finished 1st and I scored 6 goals. At this point I found my name on the Slovakia A-team squad. First goal for national team I scored in a home draw against Spain which was a playoff qualifier for 2006 WC in Germany.
VESTEL MANISASPOR
In winter I got an offer from Turkish Vestel Manisaspor and after a very difficult deciding I signed a 4-and-half-year contract. Vestel set excellent conditions for me, I had everything I needed. I joined the winter preparations immediately which were short for me (1 week only) and I jumped into Turkish league which seems to have higher quality than Czech league. In Turkey the game is quicker, more dynamic and more about skills. In the first half-season I scored 4 goals but after the summer camp and adaption the team management await more goals from me which means a bigger responsibility. We have higher ambitions as well – to finish among the first five teams. Conditions for playing football are on a very high level and I´ve been very satisfied in Manisaspor so far …
BESIKTAS ISTANBUL
On 29th December 2007, Filip Hološko signed a 2,5-year contract (plus optional rights) with famous Turkish club which paid a compensation of €5 Million. With Istanbul giants, Filip became Turkish champion and Turkish cup winner. He scored the very last goal on legendary Inonu Stadium. His 8-year spell with BJK ended in summer of 2014, when he was loaned to Rizespor for one season. Becoming free player in 2015, he signed a 2-year contract with Australian A-league giants FC Sydney.
